Gender Role-Reversal 'Butterfly Effect' centres a male protagonist that is put in situations that a woman may typically face. It emphasises how unfair it is that these ‘issues’ are normalised for women, but not for men. The book calls for awareness on unfair treatment and double standards within society.

Toxic-Masculinity 'Butterfly Effect' shows representations of behaviour that contributes to unfair societal norms. Within the book, there’s instances of male characters telling others they’ll be treated differently based on what they’re wearing, and they should expect people to act inappropriately around them. This reinforces the negative connotations that 'femininity' is viewed as a weakness or an open invitation.

Breaking Gendered-Clothing Stereotypes The book proposes to break gendered clothing stereotypes by fluidly incorporating a crossover of clothing articles that are typically segregated by gender.

Over-Sexualisation Over-Sexualisation is the excessive focus on someone's sexual appeal, usually based on their appearance or clothing, often in a way that is inappropriate, objectifying, or unrealistic. ‘Butterfly Effect’ explores how this idea is unfair, the issue should not lie within what someone is wearing, but with the mindset of the viewer. People should be able to wear what they desire without the fear of being treated inappropriately.

Broken Trust of Parental Figures Younger individuals rely on older, mature parental figures as a natural instinct, whether it may be a teacher, parent, friend or co-worker, it’s different for everyone. The book explores how sometimes the trust is broken due to the mature figure not having good intentions, for example by acting inappropriately. The book emphasises that as a society, everyone should respect and look after younger persons out of liberty, this is our duty.

Lack of Care for Vulnerable Individuals The book explores how someone in a vulnerable state is repeatedly failed by those around them. It emphasises a sense of emotional targeting, in which someone’s emotional vulnerability is used for another person’s own benefits.

Drug Misuse ‘Butterfly Effect’ focuses on depicting how easy it is to be introduced to drugs, just by someone within close proximity to you attempting to get you interested or hooked. Addiction is an extremely dangerous issue, promoting the use of drugs could potentially harm or cause implications to those around you. The book does not condone the use of drugs, it intends to raise awareness towards certain individuals that want you to become addicted to them.
